Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SnapDownloadHub and our free tools.

General

Is SnapDownloadHub free to use?+

Yes, 100% free. All tools on this site are free with no usage limits, no subscriptions, and no hidden fees. We're supported by non-intrusive display advertising.

Do I need to create an account?+

No account required. Open any tool page and start using it immediately โ€” no registration, no email, no login.

Does SnapDownloadHub work on mobile?+

Yes. The site is fully responsive and optimized for mobile browsers. Both tools work on phones and tablets โ€” you can drag and drop images or use the file browser on iOS and Android.

Which browsers are supported?+

SnapDownloadHub works in all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and their mobile equivalents. The Image Compressor requires Canvas API support, which all modern browsers provide. Internet Explorer is not supported.

YouTube Thumbnail Grabber

What YouTube URL formats does the tool support?+

All common formats: youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID, youtu.be/VIDEO_ID, youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID, youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID, and raw 11-character video IDs.

Why is the maxresdefault thumbnail not available for some videos?+

YouTube only generates the maxresdefault (1280ร—720) thumbnail for videos that were uploaded in HD quality. Older videos or videos uploaded in SD resolution will not have this size. In that case, use sddefault or hqdefault instead.

Why does the download open a new tab instead of saving directly?+

YouTube's image servers block cross-origin (CORS) downloads from third-party websites. When this happens, the tool opens the image in a new tab where you can right-click โ†’ "Save image asโ€ฆ" to download it. This is a YouTube policy limitation, not a bug.

Can I download thumbnails from private or unlisted videos?+

No. Our tool accesses thumbnails through YouTube's public image CDN. Private video thumbnails are not accessible without authentication, and we do not support logging into YouTube accounts.

Is it legal to use YouTube thumbnails?+

YouTube thumbnails are publicly accessible images. For personal, educational, or commentary purposes, their use is generally protected under fair use. For commercial purposes, you should verify the copyright status of the specific thumbnail, as custom thumbnails may be protected by the creator's copyright. Always comply with YouTube's Terms of Service.

Image Compressor

Are my images uploaded to a server?+

Absolutely not. The Image Compressor uses your browser's built-in Canvas API. Your image data never leaves your device โ€” no upload, no server processing, no data storage. This is a core privacy guarantee.

Which image formats can I compress?+

You can upload JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP images. You can also choose the output format: convert any image to JPEG (best for photos), WebP (smallest file size for web), or PNG (lossless, preserves transparency).

What quality setting should I use?+

For web images (blog, e-commerce, social media), 75โ€“85% quality gives an excellent balance โ€” typically 60โ€“80% smaller with virtually no visible quality difference. For print or archival purposes, use 90%+. For thumbnails and previews, 60โ€“70% is perfectly acceptable.

Is there a file size or number limit?+

There's no hard limit set by SnapDownloadHub โ€” the only limits are your browser's available memory. Very large images (50MB+) may be slow to process. For batch uploads, processing happens one at a time to avoid memory issues.

Why is my PNG compressed file larger than the original?+

PNG uses lossless compression, so re-encoding a PNG through Canvas doesn't always reduce its size โ€” the browser's PNG encoder may produce a larger file than the original's specialized encoder. For best PNG compression, try converting to WebP format instead, which can reduce size by 30โ€“50%.
